Life at Camp

Camp Meals

All of our meals at camp are served “Family Style”. This means the food is passed around the table (as opposed to a buffet line). Research has shown that children who eat meals with their families around a table have larger vocabularies and more diverse conversational skills about a broader range of topics.  We’ve found that Family Style meals at camp is a valuable time for our campers to form connections with one another.
Example Menu:
Breakfast: Pancakes, scrambled eggs, orange slices
Lunch: Chicken burgers, fries, carrot sticks
Dinner: Spaghetti, cheesy garlic bread, green beans

*At breakfast, an oatmeal and cereal station is always available. At lunch and dinner, campers may choose to have a sunflower-butter sandwich if they do not like the main option.

Electives

Picture
Each day at lunch, the counselors present the elective activity choices for the afternoon. Then the campers sign up for their afternoon's elective. Campers are able to get a glimpse of the activity beforehand and feel empowered by a choice of activities. We find that this gives our campers the confidence to try new things!

Cabin Life

Picture
Campers stay in cabins divided by gender and age. Each cabin houses 8-10 campers per session. Two adult counselors live and sleep alongside the campers in our open-air cabins. Cabin life is one of the highlights of the summer camp experience.

Campers have a short “Cabin Cleanup” each day after breakfast to practice some life-skills and to create a sense of ownership and pride for the camp.

After lunch campers have FOB (Feet on Bunk), where they can take time to rest by themselves or talk quietly with other campers.

Nightly “Cabin Chats” give campers a chance to discuss their day and connect with one another.
