JUNIOR ASSISTANT COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (JACIT)

Our Junior Assistant Counselor in Training (JACIT) program is a leadership program designed to teach teens the necessary skills for future jobs, either at camp or elsewhere. The program is designed to improve interpersonal and communication skills while building independence, confidence, and self awareness.

Goals of the Program

Goals of the JACIT Program:

Build self-advocacy and leadership skills
Develop the "soft skills" required to be successful in the workplace, including social communication
Increase independence
Learn to work as a team

Eligibility Criteria

Age 14 - 17
Must be able to follow rules
Generally compliant with authority figures
Ability to stay calm and regulated in stressful situations
Willing to engage in non-preferred tasks when asked

JACIT Responsibilities

All JACITs are expected to:

Participate enthusiastically in camp activities
Be a positive role model for younger campers
Complete kitchen prep (KP) duties
Lead songs/games/activities

Possible JACIT Roles

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, JACIT also take on a role related to their interests. Possibilities include:

Mail delivery
Photography
Kitchen support
Snack table worker
Campfire leader
Song leader

Get a behind-the-scenes experience at camp
Engage in service projects and team-building activities
Special "adventures" and activities exclusive to the JACIT team
Participate in camper activities
Letter of recommendation upon successful completion of the program
