A Frequently Asked Question….
“
What kind of experiences will I get at Meadowood?”
This question has been asked many times as we interview Student Clinicians. You will get a variety of experiences. Each Student Clinician will walk away from camp with between 50 and 60 clinical clock hours that can include experience in remediation of campers who had delays/disabilities in articulation/phonology, expressive and receptive language, pragmatics, aural rehabilitation including hearing impairment, deaf, or working with cochlear implants, voice, apraxia, and fluency.
Student Clinicians provide direct 1:1 or small group therapy, and therapy in inclusion settings of arts/crafts, sports, and nature. They get practice working with assistants (living unit staff) as well as collaborating with other Student Clinicians. Student Clinicians have access to Master Clinicians with a variety of skills as well as specialist such as Teacher of the Deaf, Autism/Behavioral Specialists and/or Occupational Therapists. Student Clinicians get experience in file reviews, parent interviews, goal/objective setting, daily lesson planning, writing SOAP notes, and writing final reports showing camper progress that they then share with parent during exit meetings.
All of these skills are “real world” skills which you will get to experience and practice in a wonderful outdoor setting.
