Camper Profile
We do one thing and one thing only at Meadowood Springs:
Help improve the communication skills of children with speech,
hearing, and language disorders. Following is our camper profile—please
review it to see if Meadowood Springs is right for you.
- Meadowood Springs campers have communication disorders.
Communication disorders are defined in the broad sense to
include the needs of the total child.
- We look for diagnosed clinical disorders of speech, hearing,
or language as indicated by the referring professional.
- We give priority to:
- Children enrolled in therapy programs who are not
progressing well in those programs.
- Children who need an intensive therapy program.
- Children who would benefit from the emotional support
of a supervised peer-group living experience.
- Children who require situational therapy for carry-over.
- Children who can be away from the supervised family
environment for a while.
- Children from schools which provide inadequate therapy
services.
- Children in the age range of six to sixteen.
Because our space is limited and our goals are specific,
Meadowood Springs does not cater to:
- Deaf children who need only academic/tutoring situations.
- Children with cleft palates who have not yet had an appliance
or surgical procedure to modify their speech problems.
- Children with primary emotional behavior disorder (i.e.,
autistic schizophrenic children with secondary speech problems).
- Children without reasonable degrees of self-help skills
and/or mobility to get around the camp terrain (hilly trails)
with minimum assistance.
